Between Mountains- 2017

Happy New Year you crazy bunch! What an awesome year eh? I feel like it has flown by in a flash! 2017 has been an amazing year of travel, adventure, community and progression. All in… A pretty good year! I’m sitting here on stormy Easdale today and thought I would share some of my favourite bits!

2017 Started with me focusing on my training. I made a plan and a promise to dedicate more time to what I love and I am happy to say that this year I really feel like I had some spectacular adventures around the globe.

Shoogles the Van;

That’s right… I have a new love in my life. Shoogles is an old Toyota Hiace LWB Van that I have converted (and still working on) into a travelling home for escaping to the hills. This was by far the best investment of the year and has already given me so much joy!Β  If you see the van parked anywhere, give me a knock, il get the coffee on!

Scottish trails…

If you have been keeping up with my adventures on INSTAGRAM you will know that I am still running mad. I have thrown myself into some tough races this year, Dedicated time to hit the hills and even enlisted the help of Ultra coach Paul Gibb (AKA Pyllon).

Team Pyllon

Since Paul agreed to take me on only a few months ago he has provided me with much-needed focus, direction, inspiration as well as helping me set targets and goals for this year to come. Though the training can be hard and I have had a few blips with a busy work schedule, I can’t thank Paul enough for the amount of effort he has put int helping me kick my running up a notch or two.

Paul, coupled with the inspiring @Pyllon Athletes have given me great encouragement, motivation and inspiration. Paul has helped me break my own records (305 New PRS set this year), claim a few Strava course records (8!) and push me out of my comfort zone, reaping the benefits of the extra mobility work and speed sessions. Looking forward to the new year, I can only see myself improving and plan to hit the mountains hard to tick off my Munros and tackle some life-changing Races/ Distances.

Running, Races and Adventures

This year has been all about getting out there, pushing my limits further and falling further in love with the outdoors, with travel and with the mountains. Here are a selection of photos from my favourite moments of this year and some great adventures!!

So what does 2018 hold?

Feeling utterly crushed after the Lavaredo 120km race in the Dolomites… oddly left me feeling as if I should do MORE. I don’t feel as though I’m done yet with the long stuff and plan on tackling a few big races again this year with more focus and more determination. I am currently waiting to hear the results of the UTMB lottery and will plan my year around that, should I get in. I have a few backup 100milers to look at should I miss out though! Keep an eye on my Instagram for updates!

After running the Ring of Steall Race in Glencoe this year, it sparked a desire to really get into my local hills again. I want to dedicate a couple of days every month purely to getting away in the Van and getting into the mountains. Ticking off Munro’s, Building those mountain legs and doing what I really love about running, escaping to the beauty of the trails!

Keep an eye out for more adventures this year! πŸ™‚
