Today I done a recce run of the first section of the “Kintyre Way Ultra” which I will be running in May! A 16 mile route running from Tayinloan over to Carradale on the opposite coast. Garmin map bellow:

The run itself was amazing! Spectacular views, crazy terrain (Ice and snow) and a great run through Deucharan wind farm.
The Beach
The start of the route from Taiynloan is a short run through the village and along the beach.

The First Accent
After the beach I followed the path up to the start of a forestry track that began to climb up the hillside. I got a few odd looks from workers in the lay-by who were not able to get up the hill. It was Incredibly slipy from the ice and snow. The initial accent lasted about 4 miles to the top off Deucharan hill where the views were unreal. Breathtaking. It’s moments like this, when you break over the top of the hill and are met by such an epic landscape that you remember why you love trail running.

The Wind Tower
Running through a wind farm is certainly a novelty! Was amazing to be up so close to the huge towers!

What Goes Up, Must Go Down
A beautiful decent down the other side of the hill with great views. Only a couple of tumbles on the ice…

The Home Stretch
The forestry track into Carradale was a nice run through the woodland and down into the village, arriving at the Village hall. This was deceptively the iciest part of the run

Recovery Jog
After the run, my legs were getting very cold standing still. I went a short jog down to Carradale Harbour to await my lift!
